This has been achieved to some degree in the way that maps are available offering designated routes within the gold Coast area. However, not every person is commuting to these destinations and if the cyclist chose to use this route, her/she would incur extra traveling time to reach their final destination.
Beneath are two links displaying PDF images of the maps provided by the Queensland Government;

Gold Coast Queensland Government Key Map
These maps do offer a comprehensive guide to the cycling facilities around the Gold Coast area, and it is evident that the Queensland Government has made an effort to provide information for cyclists. However, it does fall short in the nature of giving directions around the urban areas and promoting the leisure aspect of this popular tourist destination.
Beneath is a link provided by the University of Sydney that is a dramatic improvement to that made by the Queensland Government.
University of Sydney – Smart Routes
Although this map provided by the University of Sydney is more descriptive and contains more images , it doesn’t offer a safer route to all destinations, it simply gives a direct one.
In order to ensure the safety of its cyclist, the Queensland Government must take action to develop a map that caters for a variety of destinations. This could be achieved with the implementation of a Google Cycle Map. This would work in the same manner as the standard Google Map offering a wide range of functions, viewing options and satellite navigational systems, only Google Cycle Map offers the safest route for cyclists.
