This slide show displays some of the efforts taken to promote this form of transportation in Australia.
Evidently the Bicycle Queensland Inc is pro actively promoting this form of transportation by associating itself with the National Ride to Work Day that is being held on the 17th of October. However, a telephone interview was conducted on Monday 24th of September, 2007 with one of the organizers, Heidi Murford from Bicycle Victoria. These are the following questions and answers;
Q. Is cycling to work on the Gold Coast being pro actively promoted and how?
A. Through the National Ride to Work Day cycling is being encouraged all over Australia.
Q. What promotional methods will be used for this event?
A. All business organizations are notified via email for this event.
Q. How successful was the event in 2006?
A. Out of 65,000 participants, 34% continued riding their bicycles in Victoria.
So in relation to this telephone interview, the promoting of cycling as a form of transportation on the Gold Coast is solely reliant on this one event called National Ride to Work Day. Evidently, it has been proven to have a high success rate in Victoria, which means it is viable to promote cycling more frequently.
More promotional activities are a must according to the assistant manager Fred, at Jonn’s Cycles on Nobby Beach, as he also believes this National Ride to Word Day event is not enough to promote cycling on the Gold Coast. Next is an interview conducted on Tuesday 25th of September, 2007;
So what extra methods could be taken to promote this method of transportation, as it clearly is viable because of its success rate in Victoria?
